A MESSAGE ABOUT MILITARY TO CIVILIAN CAREER TRANSITION

Don SkipperAs America’s tempo of military operations has increased significantly in the past five years, so have the activities of U.S. business. Business is good and employment opportunities for military veterans have improved dramatically. Increasing demand for job-ready personnel and an ever-shrinking pool of qualified employees, combined with the ongoing technological transformation of American business has created a dynamic employment marketplace.

This has created a virtual war among employers as they struggle to hire the best talent. The best talent will result in the best products and create business winners. Human capital is increasingly becoming the focal point of competitive advantage, especially in fields requiring technical skills and leadership experience.

Yet, many transitioning veterans are settling for jobs that are less challenging, which lack a future, or bring them a great deal of stress and worry. Today, the best jobs go to those veterans who do the best at marketing themselves. In today’s highly competitive job market, anyone who is seeking a better position needs every possible competitive advantage, and must be able to navigate their way through the maze of pitfalls, traps, and minefields that prevent others from securing the best possible position.

Current market conditions, increased competition for the best opportunities, and the need for professional transition assistance have driven the need for a state-of-the-art career management/transition-assistance service. Such a service would  combine in-depth understanding of military careers, creative professional development techniques, sophisticated personal marketing strategies and the power of modern market research capabilities to facilitate the use of multiple, simultaneous, unadvertised marketing channels.

We at The Foundation for New Directions, Inc. recognized this need years ago and created the “Institute for No Fear Transition Program” for military personnel. As an Accredited Institute, our mission is to ensure that our military students take maximum advantage of the opportunities available in today’s dynamic and increasingly competitive marketplace. We have assembled a high-powered, dedicated team of retired and former military Officers and NCOs, all of whom have already succeeded in a second, civilian career, and have helped thousands of transitioning military personnel to optimize their potential. This team includes PhD’s, MBA’s, and successful entrepreneurs from a wide variety of industries. All have been professionally educated in career management and coaching and all are externally credentialed. Several have won awards for the quality of their executive coaching efforts and all are members of both the Career Masters Institute and the Career Directors International. By carefully controlling the ratio of students to consultants, we allow these professionals to maximize their effectiveness in meeting your career transition needs.

Our staff of professionals employs highly sophisticated, personalized and effective processes to help transitioning military personnel determine – and then achieve – their career goals. We have successfully accomplished this mission since 1984.
