A
job interview rarely lasts for more than an hour, but
its consequences may last for years. In order to identify
yourself as the most suitable candidate for a position,
you must prepare well in advance.
Interviewing to secure job offers can be a complex
and time-consuming process that requires careful
planning and preparation, lots of practice, and thoughtful
execution. This video presentation will help you
devise interview strategies that will eliminate many
of the problems associated with beating out your
competition and securing offers.
"Your lessons on interviewing and negotiating
really paid off. I never realized how much negotiations
counted. After I took the job they told me that they
were impressed with my ability to sell value during
the interviews." USAF CPT Al, Montgomery, Alabama
The practical advice offered will help you put the
strategy into action, giving you the confidence and
skills to succeed in your initial preparations, the
job interview itself, and follow-up procedures afterward.
"I thought I was pretty good with interviews
but I was not getting any offers. I watched your
video on interviewing and took your suggestions to
heart. My next interview went so well you would have
thought you scripted it. I received a fantastic offer
just a days later. I could not have succeeded without
using your interview techniques." Alice Marie,
Heidelberg, Germany
The video presentation highlights how to subtly
control the interview process so that you can drive
it to its logical conclusion - an offer. The video
also provides valuable insights into recognizing
buying signals, how to respond once detected, how
to solicit them if not forthcoming, and how to actually
close the deal.
"I had not realized how specialized my language
had become in the military. The interview training
highlighted my need to develop a civilian vocabulary.
I practiced a lot and it worked. Even my family has
noticed the difference." USMC MAJ Chris, Camp
Lejune, North Carolina
"I gained the mental attitude from my No Fear
Transitions Program interview training needed to
move forward in my new career." USA MSG Bill,
Seoul, South Korea
You can use this vital information over and over
again as your interviewing skills develop.
INTERVIEWING BASICS
- Dress for Success - Dress to impress, but conservatively.
Always present a good image in a professional manner.
- Time
Your Arrival - Avoid arriving more than seven
minutes early. If you are kept waiting too long,
excuse yourself.
- Lunch Interviews - At lunch, take
your cue on drinks. Avoid smoking, and never
pose a threat to a philosophical position.
- Ban Signs
of Boredom - Never read mail on someone's desk,
look at your watch, or show signs of boredom.
Avoid discussions on religion or politics. Never
be a braggart. Namedrop only with care.
- Avoid Negativity - Don't criticize your past employers, and never
apologize for liabilities that surface. Never
be negative about anything.
- Don't Linger - Don't
let an interview carry on too long. When a discussion
peaks, diplomatically lead to an end of the meeting.
Never linger afterwards.
- Create Value from
Stories - Emphasize recent experiences, use recent 3C
stories, project diversified interests and a strong
work ethic.
- Don't Fake Answers - There will always
be questions for which you can't have answers.
Don't let it bother you.
- Never Invoke Confidentiality - Don't be controlling. And, keep your eye on
body language and react accordingly.
- Read Between
the Lines - Find a way to answer the questions
that should have been asked, but were not.
- Pass
the Tests - At all times keep in mind the following:
You are trying to pass two tests. (1) You are
a quality person and (2) you can do the job.
